     Williamsport is the home of Little League Baseball, which was founded in 1939 by
 Carl Stotz. Today, Little League Baseball has grown into the world's largest youth
 sports program, with over 200,000 teams in all 50 U.S. states and more than 80
 countries ar
ound the world. The World Series, held here each year in August,
 attracts thousands of fans and players' families from around the globe. And, if you're
 a baseb
all fan, you can also enjoy great action with the Williamsport Crosscutters
 (our Philadelphia Phillies affiliate team) that plays at historic Bowman Field.
 
 
     Within minutes of downtown Williamsport, you can find yourself
 transported to the natural awe of lush forests, rolling hills, crystal-clear
 streams & lakes and quaint farmland. Outdoor enthusiasts can en
joy every
 outdoor sport imaginable ... with miles & miles of hiking and biking trails,
 boating & jet-skiing on the Susquehanna River, sailing at
Rose Valley Lake,
 camping at the many
state parks in the region and an abundance of wildlife
 for the hunting or fishing enthusiasts. Even former U.S. Presidents have
 found some of their favorite fishing holes here. Cyclists will completely enjoy
 the nearby
Pine Creek Rails To Trails Bike Path, which offers 60 miles of
 scenic biking along Pine Creek. Even closer to town, for the hiking and
 mountain biking fans, is
Rider Park. And, golfers can "hit the links" at
 nearby

     A "college town," Williamsport is home to Lycoming College (one of the 50 oldest in the nation), the
 Pennsylvania College of Technology (an affiliate of Penn State University, and Pennsylvania's premier technical
 college) and the
Newport Business Institute. Over 9,000 students arrive on our campuses each fall. Of
 worthy note in music education is the
Uptown Music Collective, a non-profit, complete school of music unlike any
 other in central Pennsylvania or beyond. Also of note, is the fact that the Williamsport Area High School's music
 program is ranked as one of the 100-best in the nation.
  
     From humble beginnings in 1796 and official incorporation in 1806, to the lumbering era
 of the late 1800's when Williamsport was the lumber capital of the world (and home to
 more millionaires per capita than any other city in the world), to Peter Herdic's horse-drawn
 carriages that would one day be known as the taxi, to being the first city to use electric
 streetcars,
and to the first teams and founding of Little League Baseball ... Williamsport

The Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum is all about the excitement of Little League Baseball. From its humble beginnings in 1939 as a three-team league in Williamsport ... through today and millions of participants in scores of countries, the museum is a tribute to the past and present.

Historic Williamsport, Victorian architecture and "Millionaire's Row"
During the lumber era of the late 1800's, Williamsport was home to more millionaires per capita than any city in the world, and most of their grand homes remain. Many of these beautiful structures can be found along West Fourth Street in the eight-block stretch between Elmira and Park Streets, which is known as "Millionaire's Row."
